OPINION: Mayor’s arrogance means  opportunity lost

The revocation of the mandate called against the mayor of the capital city began yesterday with great enthusiasm on the part of citizens who are fed up with his erratic management at the head of the largest city in the country and which, consequently, faces  problems more serious.

If the mayor had been humble, he would have made fewer mistakes, but his arrogance has put him in a vulnerable situation, precisely in this one, which could put an end to his administration. The local or national authorities must understand that the power belongs to the people, not theirs.

But, in addition, in the case of Decentralization, the law obliges the mayors to consult the citizens. But no, the current mayor preferred to impose his projects on the unsatisfied needs of the people of the capital. It is a pity that the capital city has lost a valuable opportunity to improve its urban conditions because the mayor does not find what to do with the money, except his crazy projects. Use this exercise for citizens to realize that they are the true owners of power, and if this or another popularly elected official does not measure up, then it is their duty to intervene and solve the matter, as is happening now.- LA PRENSA, Apr. 21.
