“Significant” rain and storm alert
Panama’s Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) has issued a warning of “significant” rains and storms over the entire country through Friday, October 8.
The weather conditions are associated with the passage through the Panamanian territory of tropical wave number 39 and the low-pressure systems that influence the region.
The areas that will be under the prevention notice are Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe-Buglé region, Veraguas, Colón, Guna Yala region, Darién and Emberá region.
The warning will also apply to Panama, Panama Oeste, Coclé, Herrera, Los Santos, Chiriquí, and the coastal sectors of the Caribbean and the Panamanian Pacific.
According to the estimates of the Directorate of Hydrometeorology of the Electricity Transmission Company, it is expected that the highest accumulated rainfall per day will range from 15 to 50 mm or liters of water per square meter in mountainous regions.
Additionally, windy conditions are expected during some storms and sudden river floods.
