15 medical associations urge two-week or more lockdown
As the coronavirus pandemic threatens to overwhelm health services, 15 medical associations have identified the need to apply a closure of non-essential activities of at least 14 days to stop the advance of Covid-19.
In a statement to the country, signed by 15 medical associations, it is noted that the measures proposed by the Executive to contain contagions would represent t a reduction of 0.8% of cases, which is why more energetic measures are necessary to reduce at least in 60% the number of cases.
It is noted that government actions do not foresee a decrease in cases/deaths; and that therefore they must be more energetic.
it is highlighted that the scenario supposes a disproportionate increase in cases and deaths, reaching numbers greater than 515 weekly deaths.
“In the face of this situation, it is necessary and an urgent duty to agree on a new urgent roadmap, which allows redirecting actions and measures, aimed at achieving the following objectives: urgently and effectively control the activity of the pandemic, reduce the transmission of the infection and mitigate the effects of the disease ”, says the statement.
In addition, that in order to reduce the transmission of the new coronavirus, with the projections that exist, the Medical Societies consider it “necessary to establish a closure of all activities not essential for the lives of citizens for a minimum period of 14 days and up to 4-6 weeks, depending on the impact of the measures. ”
