OPINION: Replacing US indictment with Panama “Justice”

As announced months ago, the decision of the courts to return the bail not to be arrested, hired by one of the sons of former President Ricardo Martinelli, set in motion gears that seek to have the local “justice” claim him for extradition.

Thus, without bail that prevents his arrest, the arrest alerts for extradition purposes against him will be activated. And with this legal device – which clearly seeks to evade the justice of the United States – the defense of the suspect will now pretend that the Public Ministry demands that the State correspond his return to the country, where surely, after his arrival, the bail would be posted again to avoid arrest. There is no doubt that our legislation can be twisted until justice is the victim of the law. Very useful gadgets for suspects. And now, surely, we will contemplate a fight between the United States and Panama to obtain the extradition of the subject to their respective territory. Theoretically, it would be more convenient to face a couple of charges in the United States than to try your luck with the multiple accusations in Panama. But we all already know what our justice needs to be what it claims to be.- LA PRENSA. Sep. 30
