Unscientific treatment for covid-19 based on hunches
There is a proliferation of recommendations that are not supported by the best scientific evidence for issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic says internist pulmonologist, Reynaldo Chandler whose views mirror those of leading medical scientists around the world.
“Alternative medicine and recommended drugs are being recommended at the official level, without support based on scientific research, this is worrying. They are based on opinions and hunches, and medical science doesn’t work like that,” said Dr. Chandler.
For the doctor, there are research works for and against certain pharmacology in patients with COVID-19.
“In medicine, we have an orderly, systematic, methodical, transparent, and reproducible way to demonstrate that a pharmacological intervention really does have an impact on a disease outcome,” explained Chandler.
The internist pulmonologist added that in clinical trials there is the possibility of avoiding biases typical of observational studies. “We have several clinical studies that show that pharmacological intervention (hydroxychloroquine) has no effect.”
Chandler said that there should be a call from the health authority, to summon the doctors, so that “we all speak the same language.
