HEALTH: Comfort before fashion to avoid back problems

The regular use of very high heels by fashion-conscious women can cause long-lasting health problems including spine curvature  say orthopedic and physiotherapy, a specialist in Panama’s  Social Security Fund (CSS).

Josip Espinosa explained that the use of very high heels causes all joint positions to be changed because they are more flexed, and in turn increase, the curvature of the back. He stressed that in our society they see the high shoe as aesthetic and in some jobs, they are even required of workers; however, it can have consequences such as calf, hip or knee ailments.

He warned that among the results of this bad choice of a heel is the retraction or shortening of the Achilles tendon and the twin muscles; in the knees, problems in the patella, due to an overload of the muscular part and in the toes; and in the forefoot, pain to bear all the weight. He indicated that the height of the shoe recommended for work should be a maximum of three centimeters.

The tip of the shoe is rounded, never narrow, since some ladies spend many hours moving. He concluded that the size of the footwear must be respected according to the physiognomy of the foot. A comfortable shoe will always be the main tool for those who spend their workday standing.
