Prison massacre hearings underway

 

Homicide Prosecutor David Mendoza, on Monday, February 3  charged 12 people with the alleged homicide, and attempted homicide, of 13 prisoners who were killed in the La Joyita prison massacre, on December 17, 2019.

The  hearing at the La Joya Penitentiary Complex took place behind closed doors, and under strict security measures.

Prosecutor Mendoza requested the indictments after collecting security videos from the prison, and conducting interviews with several of the inmates who witnessed the shooting.

After the incidents at the prison, the National Police conducted requisition operations and recovered three Ak-47 rifles, three 9 mm guns, a 380 caliber pistol and a 38 caliber revolver.
