Windmills treeplanting to battle drought

Cattle ranchers in Azuero are resorting to windmills to extract water from deep levels and then deposits it in a reservoir inside the farm.

In previous years,, they had to move cattle to other farms “because local reservoirs dried up.

A cattle dealer from Herrerano said that at this time of the year most of the reservoirs in the is area dried up, hence he had no choice but to make an investment of approximately $2,000.  

“We made the economic effort, but we maintain water in this critical moment in the Azuero peninsula,” he said.  

Guillermo Nicholson, of Mi Ambiente in Herrera, urged the farmers to plant trees on their farms because the culture of the Azuerenses “is to have up to 40 hectares and only  five  isolated trees”
