Only woman seeking presidency will fight on

Independent candidate  Ana Matilde Gomez, the only woman among seven running for the presidency of Panama in the May 5 election, made it clear on Monday,   April 1 that she is not stepping aside from the race.

The presidential candidate said that the fact that a woman aspires to win the presidency by as an independent has scared many people.

For Gómez, it is not only about winning the contest because everyone has the interest to win, but there are other women who have preceded her

She added that only two traditional parties have succeeded, inputting a woman forward one leading a woman to the presidency and another, putting a woman on the ballot and almost winning.

Last weekend, during a tour in the Capira area in Western Panama, the presidential candidate ruled out any kind of alliance with other candidates reports TVN.

Anti-corruption
Gómez proposed the creation of an anti-corruption cabinet to coordinate efforts and have that all entities working through “interoperability”.

The former Attorney General suggested that, in the Judicial Branch, the Integrity and Transparency Tribunal function by law and that the entire political process be reformed.

The appointment of prosecutors and magistrates should not be in the hands of the President of the Republic but should be chosen through a council that is autonomous from “politicking”.

The presidential candidate also spoke of the need to solve the problem of medicines in the Social Security Fund. She suggested breaking the old practices in the tender and reviewing the system.
