High UV alert through weekend
A high UV radiation alert extending through the weekend was issued by Panama’s Civil Defence System, on Saturday, March 9. It comes on top of an earlier warning of strong winds and high waves
Maximum rates of radiation will be experienced in Panama West, the north of Veraguas,
Panama, Darién, Colón and the Ngäbe Buglé, Emberá and Guna Yala comarcas counties will have an incidence of “very high” UV rays, with an index between 9 and 10.
Meanwhile, Bocas del Toro, Coclé, Herrera, Los Santos, Lowlands of Chiriqui and Panamanian Caribbean and Pacific marine sectors will maintain a “high” UV index of 11 or more.
Authorities recommend using sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, glasses and hydration and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
