Alliance presidential candidate exits race

 

With nearly  five months to the 2019 elections José Mimito Domingo Arias  Alliance Party presidential candidate  announced his  withdrawal  from the race.

He was the losing CD candidate in the 2014 election.

In a letter sent to the Electoral Tribunal (TE), Arias wrotethat he resigns “freely and spontaneously”

One hour after the news was announced, Arias said: “The consolidation of a unified and solid opposition political force is necessary,”

He  does not specify with whom he will join to form the “unified opposition”. However, political sources say he could join the campaign of Rómulo Roux, presidential candidate of his former Democratic Change party (CD), the group he represented in the presidential race of 2014, but was defeated by Juan Carlos Varela. In recent days, Roux and Arias have talked,

The announcement comes five days from, the last date for the parties to make known with what political forces they will be allied for the 2019 campaign

José Isabel Blandón , presidential candidate of the Panameñista Party, said that this resignation was “a chronicle of an announced decline”.
