Rescued ocelot awaiting surgery
A two-year-old female ocelot, run over by a vehicle on the road to Limones, in the Barú district, Chiriqui was rescued by personnel from the National Border Service (SENAFRONT) on Monday, December 17 and is being examined by staff of the BioDiversity Department. of the Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE).
Veterinarian Ana Sofía Angulo said that it has been determined that the feline has a hip fracture and will be taken to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Panama to be treated, including surgery.
She is the fourth ocelot rescued during 2018 that has received treatment from the technicians of MiAMBIENTE.
This year the Ministry has rescued a total of 248 animals of different species that have been analyzed by the technical team. Some have received treatment before being released in areas where their natural lives can continue.
