OPINION : Silencing the media via the courts

The judicial harassment of the media, journalists, and people who express themselves on issues through social networks should be a concern for all, because it is the citizenship that is ultimately threatened when, abusing legal proceedings, it violates freedom of expression and the right to information. Most of the demands gravitate in different judicial spheres. Until now, they have not led to convictions. However, the economic cost which, it poses on management year after year, cannot in any way be underestimated. Nor should the intimidating effect that the constant threats can have on journalists and citizens who do not have the means to face or defend against possible potential lawsuits. We hope that the current situation will serve so that society becomes aware of the value of freedom of expression and the right to information, and do what is necessary to prevent them from being curtailed by those seeking to prevent them from revealing uncomfortable truths. Regarding this newspaper, readers can be sure that we are not going to be intimidated nor they will silence us … LA PRENSA, Sep 6.
