OPINION: Martinelli charade of half truths and lies
Some lawyers, friends, and supporters of the citizen Ricardo Martinelli are dedicated to confusing half-truths and also some flagrant lies, including that the ex-ruler has had his rights violated. But, in the midst of the torrent of words spread by them, some truth has also sneaked in. For example, that their defendant has not even been treated as to a common prisoner. That’s true: the extradited former president has received a clearly privileged treatment. That can be borne out by the sick waiting for beds to be cared for in public hospitals; those that have been deprived of liberty without having been sentenced; those who share sweat and tears crammed into a cell, without air conditioning or plasma, in La Joya or La Joyita, among other prisons.
With this clarification, let us refocus on the issues on which the progress or decline of this country depends. And let’s enjoy a more dignified show, especially in this happy occasion when, for the first time, we will have the pleasure of watching our National selection.
