Panama youth congress will up Metro cost $9.7 million
Rejigging construction of Metro Line 2 in time for World Youth Day in Panama in January 2019 will add $9.7 million to the cost of the project which is now 74 percent complete.
Deputies of the National Assembly Public Infrastructure and Canal Affairs committee got the news from the Minister of Canal Affairs and president of Panama Metro, Roberto Roy when they visited the Metro offices on Thursday, March 22.
Roy said that Line 2 has advanced 74%, and the last pilings are in place, and it will link the San Miguelito district with the Nuevo Tocumen station, east of the capital,
He referred to the master draft network that includes a total of 8 lines covering a good part of the city of Panama, including Line 3 that will extend to the West, “a future State project”.
He said that the Metro will benefit more than 80 percent of the population and the “challenge
“is to accelerate the work for World Youth Day (WYD) in January 2019, which is expected to attract about 370,000 pilgrims.
About four or five stations should be ready, depending on where they there will be WYD events.
