OPINION: The high price of injustice
A close friend of Panama in the fight against corruption, the Peruvian José Ugaz, has reminded us that Only Brazil, Peru, Guatemala and Panama have made progress in the prosecution of crimes committed by senior executives of the Odebrecht company. The progress made by Brazil has been the result of four years of hard and tireless work, and that according to Ugaz, Panama has begun to achieve significant progress in just one year. Here it is evident that the lack of political will is elsewhere. The investigations advance in the Public Ministry, “but they fall behind in the Judicial Branch”. The fight against corruption and The prosecution of these crimes should not be understood as the tasks of a single government, but rather as a permanent state. It is then the option of Panamanian society to decide if it wants to end the root corruption, or, as some ask, turn the page with a false reconciliation based on impunity. Once again, we must remember the high price we pay for injustice. La Prensa, Nov 24,
