Jet-set judge gets achievement award
THE PRESIDENT of Panama’s underperforming Supreme Court, Ayú Prado, was presented with the Humanist of the Year award and invested with the medal “Aequitas”, at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (UANL), in Mexico on Thursday, Nov 23,
Ayú Prado received the distinction for his “professional career” and as “promoter in the efforts he makes in the Panama Supreme Court in the development of alternative methods of resolution of conflicts, transitional justice and restorative justice, “said a statement from Panama’s Judicial Branch.
A complaint was lodged in August 2016 by the current Executive Secretary of the National Security Council (CSN), Rolando López. Named in the process are Julio Moltó and Gustavo Pérez, ex-heads of the CSN, are mentioned, reports La Prensa .

According to the report, Ayú Prado is the first to receive the “international” award – which is endorsed by the Unesco- and which was instituted in 2016 by the 16 Ibero-American educational institutions that are part of the Alternative, Transitional and Restorative Justice Network of the Ibero-American University Association of Postgraduate (AUIP), both international organizations that arise from the academic agreement between the UANL of Mexico and the Simón Bolívar University (Colombia).
The Judicial Body specified that the invitation with the travel and lodging expenses of Ayú Prado for participating in the award ceremony was made by the rector of the UANL, Rogelio Garza Rivera.
Ayu Prado has been the target of strong criticism for his constant government-funded overseas trips, outstripping all his fellow judges in terms of costs and time away from the court.
