OPINION: Odebrecht shadow haunts president
Panamanians are being revealed a mine of data regarding the behavior of officials, frontmen and people close to power. We had never been so close to sharing names of those close to corruption, but never before was the truth so elusive, hidden as it is under falsehoods, interpretations of “experts” -whose purpose is to confuse, – comments from politicians, opportunists and half-truths disseminated by targeted people who aspire to be victims and, turn into perpetrators those who try to shed light on their murky acts. In this context of confusion distrust and uncertainty, the safest alternative is to refer to the facts, and they speak loud and clear: the Odebrecht contractor gave millions in sums to people with access to power, including those close to the current president of the Republic. The monies were destined to obtain favors and they were recorded in shadow accounting and reached the recipients through intricate twists and turns legal and geographical. Around these facts, many questions are still raised, but the confidence margin narrows quickly. The president has the floor.
