OPINION: Panamas day of outrageous infamy
Yesterday was an unprecedented day in the history of justice in Panama. The public hearing in which the
Odebrecht collaborators allowed the country to verify the work that the Public Ministry has been doing
and the steps it has taken in the process of clarifying the events that occurred around Odebrecht.
But most important, it offered new and devastating testimonies about the participation of high
officials of the last administration, whose ultimate goal was to guarantee that the commercial interests of a contractor were placed above those of the country. What, how, who when, where and how much described in the words of the whistleblowers was painful, offensive and outrageous. And it added salt to a wound that will not heal as long as justice is not done. The “what” in the information that was given did not include all the “who” Probably, that’s how it is. But this should not lead us to minimize or underestimate what has been achieved so far, but fill us with forces to continue claiming deadlines that are necessary to ensure that investigations reach where they have to go. ..Whoever that brings down.
