Panama soccer star standard bearer gets city key
PANAMA SOCCER hero, Román Torres, flew into the city at dawn on Friday, November 3 to become the standard bearer for the Independence Day parade.
Torres, who scored the winning goal to defeat Costa Rica and earn Panama a berth in the 2018 World Cup was scheduled to receive the flag from President Juan Carlos Varela at 7 a.m, but it finally changed hands at 10 a.m.
He was accompanied by family members who were with him on the charterd private jet that had carried them from Seattle where, the night before he had played for the Seattle Sounders, as they defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-0 to earn a place in The American Soccer League, Western Conference final.
