World Cup qualifying MVP Independence Day flag bearer
ROMÁN TORRES the national soccer team defender who scored the goal that guaranteed that Panama will be in the 2018 World Cup in Russia will be flying in by private jet at dawn on Friday, November 3, for the Independence Day parade on the Cinta Costera.
He was invited to be the standard bearer by President Juan Carlos Varela. “The Panamanian defender will arrive on a private flight so that he is on time in the Presidency for the beginning of the protocol acts celebrating 114 years of republican life,” said a note from the Panama Football Federation.
President Varela commented that all efforts would be made so that Torres and his family were in Panama for the date.
Torres, who plays for the Seattle Sounders of the US Soccer League, has to play Thursday night against the Vancouver Whitecaps, in a playoff game in the Centurylink Field, in Seattle.
The Panamanian defender was the author of the goal with which Panama beat Costa Rica, 2-1 on October 10 at the Rommel Fernández stadium which propelled Panama to the World Cup.
Panama will Play Wales in Cardiff in a warm-up game on November 14. Gareth Bales one of the Real Madrid superstars, will be in the Welsh line up. and Panama will get a taste of the challenges they will face on the world stage in Russia
