OPINION: An unpardonable legacy
Panama had a golden age, in which public infrastructure was solidly built. With the arrival of abundance to the public treasury, the roads lost their quality and were increasingly outrageously priced. This is the case of Domingo Díaz, during the last government and that the Comptroller General of the Republic has considered had an exaggerated cost. Hundreds of millions of dollars squandered and lost in surcharges are the unpardonable legacy of corrupt governments that robbed us all. Accidents and potholes caused by the poor state of these works are part of the hidden cost of these projects, whose price did not include expensive medicines, ambulances and schools.
