OPINION : Panamas political bourgeoisie

THEY usually attack the messenger when a corruption scandal splatters them, stains them or washes over them.
They say how necessary they are for democracy, because without them the system is in danger, So they defend themselves, claiming – what is said of them is political attacks.
But the truth is that deputies make every effort to become the targets of citizen criticism. They are saved by their “colleagues” in the Supreme Court, and they do little or nothing to shake off the bad reputation they deservedly earned.
The Assembly has among its members the champions of absenteeism, In its ranks are the new business bourgeoisie , sordid and no longer so secret. With few exceptions, they cannot disguise their total lack of knowledge of matters that they legislate, nor can they explain the lifestyle and properties they have, -which $ 7,000 a month could hardly justify-and much less control their insatiable appetite for power.
They do not even take the trouble to attend plenary, where at least one might think something is done. Neither do they help each other. They and only they are their own saboteurs.
