Complaints against Varela and judges rejected
COMPLAINTS filed against President Juan Carlos Varela and six Supreme Court judges were rejected by the National Assembly Credentials Commission on Wednesday May 17, 2017.
The complaint against Varela was related to statements of his former advisor, lawyer Ramón Fonseca Mora.
On February 9, Fonseca Mora told the media that Varela had told him that he had received donations from the Brazilian company Odebrecht.
Varela was denounced for committing crimes against the public administration for omission in the exercise of his functions and abuse of authority, among others.
But the committee found that there was no evidence he took the donations.
In addition, the deputies alsoagreed not to admit denunciations against Supreme Court Chief Justice Jose Ayú Prado, and magistrates Jerónimo Mejía, Abel Zamorano, Oyden Ortega, Secundino Mendieta and Harry Díaz.
