18 years for fish market kidnapping

AN 18-YEARS prison term for human trafficking has been  handed down  to a 41-year old man who kidnapped a Nicaraguan citizen at the Fish Market  on the Cinta Costera and threatened to make her a prostitute.

According to information disclosed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, , the victim was near the Seafood Market on the Cinta Costera on Nov. 17, 2014 when she met Sugel Cortés, who offered her a cleaning job.

He asked for the victim’s passport to make a copy, and then took her to a vehicle.

The victim was driven to a building where she was threatened by a person who spoke English.

That person told her she would have to be a prostitute in the Bahamas or her family would be harmed.

The person, who has not been identified, also allegedly took naked photos of the victim at gunpoint.

The victim escaped at Tocumen International Airport, were she told police about the incident and an arrest was made.
