Ougoing judge knocks Assembly infighting
RETIRING Electoral Tribunal Judge Erasmo Pinilla has expressed concerns over the imbroglio in the National Assembly while selecting his replacement at the end of the year.
He said that the process has been “superficial” and warned that the institutional framework of the entity is at stake.
Pinilla made his remarks at a ceremony opening Independence Day activities On Monday Oct 31 the National Assembly closed its last ordinary session of the year without naming a replacement. This is because the PRD and Panameñista parties have been unable to agree on the voting process.
“I thought that we had learned the lesson that the institutional framework must be respected, but it seems that we have not,” Pinilla said. “It seems that they take more precedence in designating people with unproven loyalties to the institutions,” he said.
