28 pregnant women with zika virus
PANAMA has received a donation of 5,000 kits for the prevention of the zika virus in pregnant women, but for 28 already diagnosed the news comes too late
Th Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health has reported that there are 28 active cases of the virus in pregnant women.
The department had been tracking 103 suspected cases, but 75 of the women tested negative for the virus.
The ministry the donation of kits for the prevention of the virus women from the Pan-American Organization of Social Marketing (Pasmo).
The kits contain educational material, mosquito repellent and latex condoms, which will be distributed in areas of higher risk for the zika virus outbreak and where there is the largest population of pregnant women.
According to data from the ministry, a total of 443 cases have been registered in Panama so far.
The zika virus is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also causes dengue and chikungunya.
