OPINION: Failure to act raises suspicion
La Prensa, Sep.30
FEDERAL prosecutors in Brazil have been battling for more than a year and a half with local [Panama]authorities to investigate the bank accounts of a company used to pay bribes to officials of the southern country.
To justify research in Panama, Brazil underpinned the case with evidence, including the confession of those who received the bribe, and nothing happened here.
How can it be possible that the Office has not begun its own investigation, knowing that from those laundered money accounts in Panamanian banks, bribes were paid and what is worse, money that belongs to the Brazilian people was decanted?
It is a shame that even after the Financial Analysis Unit received reports of suspicious transactions from bank accounts of Constructora South International, S.A., Panama has not moved a finger to get to the bottom of this web of corruption?
With such a lack of action, suspicion is inevitable.
Why the mystery? Why is nothing investigated? Why these threadbare excuses to avoid delivering information?
If the prosecution has a legitimate interest in investigating, then start and stop the useless fuss and empty speech that no longer fools anyone.
