Canal predicts $2.8 billion revenue
THE PANAMA Canal Authority (ACP) will generate income of $2.8 billion in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, with a major slice going to the government.
The National Assembly Budget Commission approved the budget on Tuesday August 16. It will be the first year that the Canal expansion is fully operational.
The income figure represents an increase of $263.2 million in revenue from tolls.
The institution also estimated that, during the next fiscal year, there will be 927 neopanamax ships using the new locks.
The ACP estimated it will contribute $1.6 billion to the government directly and another $208.5 million indirectly.
