Pay deductions called forbacksliding deputies
INDEPENDENT deputy, Ana Matilde Gómez, has called on the National Assembly president Ruben De Leon and the nation’s comptroller to make deduction from the salaries of legislators who were absent from their seats when Eladio Guardia, director of the garbage collection authority (AAUD) appeared on July 28 to make his report and answer questions
Questions remained unanswered because the Assembly chamber was virtually empty and there was not a quorum.
Gomez wants The board of the National Assembly, chaired by the PRD Ruben De Leon, to check on Tuesday August 16, if the salary is deducted deputies who were absent from the legislative chamber an unjustified lack of ‘quorum’ in AAUD, administrator’s apperance ,In a letter to De Leon and Comptroller Federico Humberto, Gomez requested the application of “ the provisions of Article 86, in accordance with Article 14, paragraph 8 and Article 95 of the Organic Rules of the National Assembly.”
Panameñista deputy Adolfo Valderrama believes that the proposal has “good intentions” but said it was uncertain whether the procedure was right. PRD Deputy Pedro Miguel González Gómez application said the President of the Assembly had to take a decision.”
La Prensa said it called several times to De Leon, but he did not respond. They tried to locate him in his office in the legislature, but there was no answer.
