Key Pan scandal suspect hospitalized
THE FORMER director of the National Assistance Program (PAN), Rafael Guardia,Jaen is the latest detainee awaiting trial linked to corruption during the Ricardo Martinelli administration to be hospitalized.
He has been detained in the El Renacer prison since November 2014 facing multiple charges of alleged irregularities in the management of PAN funds and is also accused of money laundering.
He was transferred to Santo Tomas Hospital on Thursday July 21 with heart, nervous system and psychiatric problems and severe ulcers, according to his lawyer Victor Orobio who described his condition as “very bad.”
Guardia Jaen, refused to talk when first faced with prosecutors, but he later opened up pointing fingers at other members of the administration including then president Ricardo Martinelli
