GREEN ALERT for Pacific beaches
A 24 HOURS “green”alert for beach communities on Panama’s Pacific Coast was issued by The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) on Tuesday morning, May 31
A swell with waves of 1.22 to 1.83 meters with gaps of between 14 and 16 seconds has spurred the alert with a warnings of possible damage in Puerto Caimito in La Chorrera, Chame, San Carlos, Coronado, Farallon in Anton, El Salao in Aguadulce, Puerto Armuelles in Chiriqui, Uverito, Mariato, islands of the archipelago, La Palma in Darien and areas near the Pacific coast.
The impact of the waves could be higher arhigh tides and Sinaproc advises:
- Pay special attention to the rising sea level and the presence of high and frequent waves at all times
- Stay away from the beach areas to avoid possible tidal surges.
- Avoid recreational activities taking such as boating, surfing or jet skiing.
- In beach areas follow the recommendations of lifeguards and stay out of the sea when there is a red flag.
- Coastal populations should be aware of the presence of dangerous drag currents in beach areas.
