Barro Blanco hydro protests continue
INDIGENOUS groups opposed to the Barro Blanco, hydroelectric project are continuing protests in Bocas del Toro, and promise to do so until the project is suspended.
Protesters are opposed to the displacement of indigenous peoples living along the Tabasará River, who will need to be relocated once the reservoir for the project is filled.
The filling began this week and will continue through August.
On Saturday May 28, protesters blocked roads in Norteño and Gualaquita.
In previous days, police officers have managed to clear protesters without violence.
