University in cross hairs of Attorney General

PANAMA’S Attorney General. Kenia Porcell, has set her team to work  reviewing  the the audit carried out by the  Comptroller ‘General on the University of Panama.

On May 19, the comptroller revealed  that the audit had uncovered economic injury to the state of $3.5 million. It focused on alleged irregularities in the design, construction and equipping of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

In the eye of the storm is the university’s 20 year rector Gustavo Garcia de Paredes.

Porcell said that the investigation will be carried out under the rules of the criminal accusatory system. She added that it “can last a month or may last for several months” depending on the complexity of the case.
