Mosquito victims: Zika 243, dengue 412
THE NUMBER of cases of people affected by the Zika virus in Panama
has climbed to 243 while 412 cases of dengue chikungunya, have been reported, said Panama’s Ministry of Health on Saturday April 23. Both are transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti.
The medical director of the MoH in Herrera, Alcibiades Dominguez,reported that the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies confirmed the first Zika virus case in the province.
Dominguez said that the case was detected in the Social Security Polyclinic, The patient is a nine year old patient, who lives in Chitre. The child is in stable condition.
Symptoms caused by Zika virus are skin rashes, joint pain and conjunctivitis.
The symptoms are usually mild and do not require hospitalization, but people with symptoms should go to the nearest health facility.
