Books-on-the-go program for Metro users
BIBLIOMETRO an experimental program to promote reading will be launched at Panama’s Fernandez de Cordoba Metro station on Tuesday April 6.
A small library will be installed following a five year agreement signed by representatives of the Lions Club de Balboa, the 20-30 Club and Roberto Roy, CEO and chairman of the board of Panama Metro seeking to promote Metro culture, promoting cultural and educational activities in different stations.
According to the Metro Panama, the “Bibliometro” will consist of a space where passengers can choose the book of their choice, to read during journeys while encouraging them to acquire the habit of returning the book either on their next trip or when they have finished reading.
The pilot project will assess if there is public acceptance before expanding to other stations.
Books will be donated by the Active 20-30 Club of Panama and the Balboa Lions Club and anyone wishing to donate books.
The starting selection includes: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, Lest I forget by Marcela Serrano, the entire Harry Potter series, Dante’s, Divine Comedy, and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
