Ongoing fight against disease carrying mosquito
MARCH ended with 338 cases of dengue, 168 cases of the zika virus and 8 cases of chikungunya virus across the country.
100 of the dengue cases are in Panama City. says Health Minister, Francisco Javier Terrientes.
All three diseases are transmitted by the aedes aegypti mosquito and health authorities have made repeated appeals to the population to eliminate breeding places.
Terrientes said visits are made “house to house” to explain to the public what the reality of the mosquito. Failure to follow the recommendations, there will involve “strong” sanctions, he said.
He added that while the number of cases is low relative to those of neighboring countries, we should not lower our guard.
Locations with mosquito breeding sites may face fines ranging up to $100,000.
