MARCH ended with 338  cases of dengue, 168 cases of the zika virus and 8 cases of chikungunya virus across the country.

100 of the dengue cases are in Panama City.  says  Health Minister, Francisco Javier Terrientes.

All three diseases  are transmitted by the  aedes aegypti mosquito and health authorities have made repeated appeals to the population to eliminate breeding places.

Terrientes said visits are made “house to house” to explain to the public what the reality of the  mosquito. Failure to follow the recommendations, there will involve  “strong” sanctions, he said.

He added that while the number of cases is low relative to those  of neighboring countries, we should not lower our guard.
