Fresh complaint file against Martinelli

ONE OF THE VICTIMS of illegal surveillance during the previous administration  has filed a criminal complaint against former  Panama president Ricardo Martinelli.

The action was filed by Miguel Antonio Bernal through his legal representative Angel Alvarez. He has asked for the former president to be investigated for trying to influence the election of the head of the Supreme Court. The complaint is based on remarks made by Judge Harry Díaz in January reports La Prensa.

“Díaz gave details about the intrusion of the former president in decisions and functions of the Supreme Court,” the complaint said.

It added that Martinelli should be investigated for trying to control the court.

Álvarez also represents several victims, including Bernal, of illegal surveillance allegedly ordered by Martinelli. That case is also before the Supreme Court.

So far, the court has admitted six complaints against Martinelli and rejected three. Three others are pending admission.
