Culinary and cultural tastes of the Caribbean

By Margot Thomas

COMING UP  this weekend, a complete change of pace from the noise  and water  wasting high jinks associated with Carnival  on the Cinta Costera, and you’’ll be in air conditioned comfort  as you enjoy the cultural and culinary flavors of the West Indies.

The Society  of Friends of the West Indian Museum, (SAMAAP)  is holding its 35th annual  Grand Fair at Atlapa on Saturday and Sunday, February 13 and 14

Along with the opportunity to sample, or take home traditional West  Indian Food (I never leave without at least one of the giant spicy  buns), you can browse around a wide range of arts and crafts  stalls, in between enjoying non-top entertainment including cultural presentations,  quadrille dancing,  songs and,  of course, calypso bands and Los Beachers. And there’s face painting and more for the kids to enjoy

The fair runs from noon until 8 pm and admittance is only $5  for adults, Children under 12,  $2 .

Your donation will help Samaap continue its work  in the community descended from those who played a major role in the building of the Canal.
