6 dead 18 injured in first hours of carnival

CARNIVAL celebrations in Panama are also a time of mourning for many families with the seemingly inevitable carnage on the country’s highways.

This year, six people were killed and 18  injured in transit accidents scattered across the country

Two men died and six people were injured  after a  head-on  collision between a car and pickup truck opposite the American University on Domingo Diaz, Panama City

In Cocle, on the road to La Pintada, a cyclist was hit and killed  by an unidentified vehicle..

One person was killed and four injured on Via Boyd,  Colon when a truck collided with a sedan, and another person was killed on Ave Boyd Roosevelt   in Buena Vista in a collision between a private bus and a panel van.

The  beefed up Joint Task Force (FTC), watching out  for bad driving during carnival said that all the  events have occurred outside the coverage area of ​​the Carnival.

Preliminary reports from the FTC eveal that in the first 12 hours of Carnival a total of 22 drivers were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol.
