Martinelli case file being translated to English
THE 2000 PAGES case file relating to ex-president Ricardo Martinelli an the investigation into illegal wiretapping is being translated into English prior to preparing an extradition request.
Judge Jeronimo Mejía made the announcement on Monday Jan 25, and said the case must be translated to submit an extradition request.
Mejia ordered the translation shortly after the plenum of the Supreme Court ordered the arrest of the former president in December.
The pages being translated include exhibits provided by prosecutor Harry Díaz and statements by some 150 victims.
“The translation of these pages is indispensable to comply with the arrest warrant issued by the plenum of the court because it is a fundamental requirement in the United States,” Mejia said.
The judge issued the statement when he was petitioned by victims about the lack of progress in the case.
