Government payroll up by 5,000

THE NUMBER of employees  on the state payroll increased by 5,000  over the previous year to  214,333 officials  reports the Comptroller General.

That brought the salary bill  to  $243.2 million, $25.9 million more than in October 2014.

There are 192,019 permanent workers and 22,314 contractual employees.

In total there are 83 institutions that make up the state payroll, of which 25 are from the central government and 36 are from decentralized institutions. There 14 state-owned companies and eight intermediaries
