Corruption rewards under the hammer
The Ministry of Economy and Finance is planning to auction properties it has seized in connection with corruption investigations in February.
The properties are linked to past government officials, and include apartments, houses and vehicles.
One is a mansion with all the mod-cons including a pool size Jacuzzi, in Costa del Este that belongs to former National Aid Program (PAN) Director Rafael Guardia Jaen, who is being held in El Renacer Prison on corruption charges.
Serracín said that a yacht, Boombastic, could be turned over to the Panama Maritime Authority or the National Aeronaval Service.
In addition, the properties to be auctioned could include goods linked to former Supreme Court Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna, sentenced to five years in prison for unjustified enrichment and fraud.
