Ex presidential candidate Navarro in a corner
FORMER PRD presidential candidate Juan Carlos Navarro, backed into a corner by media revelations, has called a press conference to explain the relationship of himself and his treasurer Javier Martínez Acha’s with the “zero (inner) circle of former President Ricardo Martinelli.
This comes as prosecutors have unveiled transfers of funds from Felipe “Pipo” Virzi, a member of the inner circle, to Queensland Properties Ltd. and Clients Custody Account Inc., companies linked to Acha Martinez, in July 2013.
PRD Deputy Leandro Avila and party figurehead Balbina Herrera have asked for an explanation.
Herrera agreed with PRD stalwarts Mitchell Doens and Francisco Sánchez Cardenas that it is is clear that Martinelli had his hands inside the PRD reports La Prensa.
Navarro will hold a press conference Monday Oct 26, and PRD Secretary General Carlos Pérez Herrera said that any actions taken by the party against Martinez Acha will be made after that.
PRD Deputy Pedro Miguel González said that the situation is regrettable. “Mistakes were made and the party and the country are paying the price for it,” he said.
Former President Ernesto Balladares said that the party must wait for those involved to give an explanation of the irregularities. But he and other party leaders noted that the facts seem to support the rumor during the election that Martinelli had infiltrated the PRD.
“Martínez Acha was indeed, a figure that was linked to Martinelli for economic, financial and business reasons,” said Mitchell Doens.
Navarro declined to comment about the allegations, saying he would answer questions Monday reports La Prensa.
