WhatsApp helps foil armed robbery
A GROUP of robbers hoping to top up their days takings of nearly $50,000 with a haul from a Do It Center branch in David, Chiriqui, were foiled by a quick thinking employee who sent an alert by WhatsApp.
The armed thieves entered the store at approximately 8:30 pm on Sunday, September 20 and bound and gagged staff.
The raid took place only 48 hours after a David supermarket owner was killed and two of his staff shot.
The three criminals in overlooked one of the employees who sent a text message to a WhatsApp group, which was seen by a co-worker, who alerted the police.
The police arrived in time to thwart the botched robbery, after an exchange of fire.
Two of the marauders were captured, after leaving money bags containing$48,814 and two petty cash boxes holding $400 each in the store’s parking lot
Police units also found a blue sedan and a vest with the Do it Center logo used by the attackers.
Third suspect’s whereabouts are still unknown, but police have mounted a search operation and are confident of his capture
