When farce follows farce
PANAMA’S GOVERNMENT is perfecting the art of circumlocution in response to citizen’s calls for a presidential veto of Bill 214, the ‘new shield law’ which they have called a farce and which protects deputies and elected officials from criminal prosecution.
Ths Ministry of the Presidency has solicited views from various institutions and organizations over the bill adopted on September 1 by the National Assembly and referred to the Executive for sanction or veto.
The Minister of the Presidency, Alvaro Aleman, said on Monday, September 14 that, they already requested the opinion of the Ministry of Government and other state entities that he didn’t identify.
He didn’t say how long they have to reply.
