Chamber of Commerce backs Metro bus takeover
WHILE Panama’s Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the decision by the government to assume control of the Metro Bus service it warns users not to expect improved service overnight.
The government has announced it will hire the American company First Transit to operate the system but “To achieve the expected level of service will require a joint effort of all the authorities involved,” said the Chamber in a statement.
It said users and citizens in general also have to do their part to use the service in an orderly manner.
The Chamber also stressed that it is imperative to resolve issues with service.
“In recent years, delays in the modernization of public transport has resulted in unfortunate accidents. This issue continues to be a topic which has not received the attention necessary to radically improve service,” the Chamber said.
