Man who named Martinelli in FP scandal, jailed 5 years
A LEAD PLAYER in the Financial Pacific scandal who, after being on the run, turned himself in, implicated ex-president Ricardo Martinelli, and pleaded guilty to corruption of officials, has been sentenced to five years in jail.
Former Director of Supervision of the Securities Superintendent Ignacio Fabrega was sentenced on Thursday, August 4 for giving confidential information to the brokerage house while it was being investigated.
Eight days earlier he surrendered after being a fugitive for more than four months, and during his guilty plea fingered Martinelli and ex tourism boss Salomon Shamah as financiers of the brokerage implicated in money laundering sand stock manipulation.
T he judge ordered copies of the file sent to the Supreme Court so that it could investigate former Martinelli.
Fábrega told the court he was acting on orders from the former president, who has several accounts in the brokerage firm.
The request to investigate Martinelli was made by Prosecutor Zuleyka Moore.
Fábrega has also implicated former former Superintendent of Securities Juan Carlos Martans in the case.
