OFF THE CUFF: Garuz assault case postponed
THE LEGAL woes of former National Security Council member Alejandro Garuz are keeping his lawyers busy (and well rewarded) as he is being attacked on two fronts that are interconnected
One, that has been hanging in the air since 2013, was to start on Monday, August 31, was postponed due to the filing of defense motions. That meant that Garuz would not get a day-trip from his cell in Renacer Prison where he is awaiting trial on major charges of illegal surveillance.
He is also accused of assaulting Association of Journalists Secretary General Filemón Medina. The hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. in the 10th criminal court.
Garuz allegedly struck Medina on June 11, 2013 who went to the headquarters of the Security Council to demand the release of two journalists who had been detained by the agency wen filming near what turned out to be the illegal wire tapping operations center.
