Wheels of justice grind slowly over Martinelli pardons
A FEW DAYS before leaving office then president Ricardo Martinelli granted 353 pardons for people charged with criminal offenses including CD party insiders, deputies and acquaintances but the Supreme Court has not yet resolved 75 complaints of unconstitutionality filed against the presidential pardons.
In August 12014 the current president, Juan Carlos Varela, revoked the Martinelli pardons but the Supreme Court must rule as reported by the judiciary.
On September 4, 2014 the full Supreme Court decided that all complaints against the pardons were assigned to Judge Harley Mitchell, who accepted the presentation of the first lawsuit filed on June 30, reports La Prensa
